From Textbook to Comic Book
History is one of the core assets of Valley Forge & Montgomery County, PA and it’s important to find new and fresh ways to tell the story. To appeal to families, we took the usual telling of history and brought it to life in a comic book with the help of a team of artists. To make it relatable and exciting for kids, we chose to have two kids in modern day get transported back in time to help Washington and his army solve problem. The narrative also gave us a chance to show how history can be relevant to problems with face today as adults and children alike. The comic book also features engaging actives like a code cracker.
The feedback we received on this project was incredible, with a feature on NBC 10 news and we even had outreach from a teacher in upstate New York who wants to use the comic books as part of her class to engage students.
